Produce a song - start to Finish
Red Lion Recording Studio - Audio Engineer Academy, offers you the unique opportunity to produce a song with a local band from start to finish. You will learn and assist in recording the band, editing, arranging, mixing, and mastering. We will go into detail on each step of the process to make sure students have a good fundamental understanding on how to produce a song at any studio from an idea to final product.
This program is tailored for beginners to experienced engineers who want to learn technique and processes to get great recordings as well as learning how to use the most popular analog gear in the industry. This will prepare you to be able to work at any commercial studio and produce a song from start to finish.
In this program you will learn from top engineers and producers with over 30 years of combined experience and numerous albums under their belts. You will not only learn theory but practical tips and tricks that we use every day to get punchy drums, ripping guitars, and warm full mixes
Course Schedule
DAY 1 - Tracking - Recording / Producing
The first day in the studio will be setting up to record drums, guitars, bass, and vocals. Our expert engineers will walk you through step by step set up on all instruments to do a multitrack recording. You will get hands on experience leading the session using ProTools and analog gear.
- Mic placement and selection
- Theory and technique for getting great drum sounds
- Analog Preamp, compression, and EQ settings
- Setting up the mixing board for monitoring and headphone mixes
- Setting up pro tools session - analog to digital conversion
- Band relations and management and tips to produce a better song
- Recording ALL instruments and vocals for the entire song
Day 2 - Editing and Mix prep
On day two we will go through the song and do all editing needed to prep the song for mixing. Our Engineers will walk you through step by step editing and prepping the session for mixing.
- Slice, edit, and quantize drums to grid
- Edit guitar recordings and re-amp guitars
- Vocal tuning and timing adjustments
- Cleaning the session and final mix preparation
Day 3 - Mixing and Mastering
On day 3 we will Mix and Master the session. In this process we will use digital and analog processes to get the song to a finished commercial master. Our Engineers will explain in detail why we use certain plugins or gear to achieve a punchy well balanced mix.
- ProTools mixing technique along with automation, Plugins, and routing
- Bringing the mix to the API board for analog mixing
- Patch bay set up and routing analog audio in a mix
- Learn how to use the analog gear all the top studios use to make great mixes
- Learn EQ, Compression, gain staging, and effects to complete a balanced mix
- Mix buss processing and finalizing a Master Recording
